Civil Division Holds First Video Conferencing Case

As the courts move to automating processes, many courts are utilizing videoconferencing facilities as means of expediting court hearings.

On Friday (September 25, 2020), the Civil Division finalized hearings in a matter using the video conferencing facility, making it a first in the Division.

Videoconferencing involves a live, visual connection between two or more people residing in separate locations for the purpose of communication. It provides transmission of full-motion video images and high-quality audio between multiple locations.

The matter,which was presided over by Hon. Lady Justice Esta Nambayo, involved hearing of the defendant, Ms. Edlyn Sabrina Pacific, who is in the USA.

The witness, represented by Mr Elijah Wante, stated that she was unable to travel due to the prevailing travel restrictions as result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The plaintiff, Mr. Otto Methodius Pacific dragged to court his ex-wife Mrs Edlyn Sabrina Pacific and Mr Joseph Katende of Koi Bailiffs and Auctioneers contesting the execution process arising from their divorce petition at the Family Division of the High Court.

Hon.Lady Justice Nambayo set October 30th as the date for filing submissions and November 30th as the date when the matter would come up for Mention.
